Ryszard Haba was born in Cracow. In 1989
he graduated from The Cracow Academy of Music with special distinction.
In 1988 he started his career as a percussionist in the Cracow Philharmonic
Orchestra. He has been working as a principal percussionist in this orchestra
and since 1996 has been first timpanist there.
He was the first in Poland who performed "Concertos for percussion and orchestra"
by Berthold Hummel and Joseph Schwartner, first in the world who
performed "Music for violin and marimba" by Nathan Wright Shirley. As a
member of Cracow Percussion Duo he made the first world
performance of "Concerto for two percussions and orchestra" by Marek Stachowski.
Together with Kaja Danczowska he formed very rare violin-percussion duo. The
duo performs also compositions written exclusively for them.
He plays some eighteenth century concertos for six and eight timpanis on
original baroque instruments. He is a member of scottish music ensamble The Reivers.
He collaborates with polish singer Leszek Długosz.
He performs with many orchestras - Capella
Cracoviensis, Sinfonia Varsovia, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Rzeszów Filharmony,
Capella Bydgostiensis - among others. He is a member of Polish XVIII Century
Orchestra. In 2008 he played with Jordi Savalla band during Misteria Paschalia
Festival in Cracow. Together with Capella Bydgostiensis he made the first in
the world performance of Lindsay Davidson's "Concerto for Marimba" with
orchestra. He made the first polish performance of "Concerto per sei Timpani"
with orchestra by Georg Druschetzky.
In 2006 and 2007 he took part as soloist and teacher in the International
Festival of Percussion Music "Crossdrumming" in Warsaw. In 2008 and 2009 he
organized Days of Percussion Music in Cracow Filharmony. He has been leading
a very busy artistic life playing concerts as a soloist, chamber and orchestra
musician.
